Valakkai Kulambu Recipe- Raw Banana Curry- Super Suvai Tamil

Raw Banana is one of the tasty and healthy vegetables. Many dishes can be made with raw bananas. Poriyal, Vathakkal, and Aviyal are some of the raw banana dishes. In this blog post, I am going to share the raw banana curry recipe (Valakkai Kulambu recipe).

What is Valakkai Curry?

Valakkai Curry is an excellent side dish for rice or breakfast varieties. Valakkai Curry is a traditional Thanjavur recipe. We are using grated coconut in this Valakkai Curry this gives extra taste to the recipe.

Ingredients required for Valakkai Kumalbu Recipe:

  • Raw Banana (Valakkai)-Two
  • Turmeric Powder (Manjal Thool)- one tablespoon
  • Fennel Seeds (Sombu)- half tablespoon
  • Salt (Uppu in Tamil)- As per your taste
  • Chili Powder (Milagai Thool)- one tablespoon
  • Cumin Seeds (Seeraga Thool)- one tablespoon
  • Grated Coconut (Thengai Thuruval)- half cup
  • Garlic Cloves (Poondu)- 3 cloves
  • Coriander leaves (Kothamalli Ilai)- for garnishing
  • Water (Thanneer)- 2 cups

Valakkai Kulambu Recipe Cooking Method:

  1. Peel off the raw banana, cut it in half and chop it into horizontal pieces.
  2. In a mixer, add grated coconut, fennel seeds, garlic cloves, and make it as a paste.
  3. In a vessel, add 2 cups of water, raw banana pieces, turmeric powder, chili powder, salt, and let it boil till the raw banana cooked perfectly.
  4. Then add a pasted coconut to a vessel and mix it well.
  5. Keep it in a low flame for a few more minutes and garnish it with finely chopped coriander leaves.
  6. Now Valakkai Kulambu recipe is ready to taste and serve with rice.

Notes (Tips for Valakkai Kulambu recipe):

  1. You can chop the raw banana into cubed pieces for easy cooking.
  2. Instead of using water only, you can use a coconut milk water mixture for the best taste.
