Coconut Milk Chicken Curry- Super Suvai Tamil
Chicken Curry is a traditional south Indian dish and it is the main part of non-vegetarian cuisine in south India. In this post, I am going to share chicken curry with a coconut milk recipe. This recipe will be very delicious, so try it in your home.
What is Coconut Milk Chicken Curry?
Chicken curry is a dish from India which can be served in many varieties. In coconut milk chicken curry, chicken is cooked in coconut milk. The flavor of coconut milk will give an extra taste to the chicken curry. Many countries have different styles of making this chicken curry.

Ingredients required for Coconut milk chicken curry recipe:
- Chicken (with or without bones)- 500 grams
- Pepper Powder (Milagu Thool)- half tablespoon
- Cumin Seed powder (Seeraga Thool)- 2 tablespoon
- Coconut Milk (Thengai Paal)- 2 cup
- Bay leaf (Brinji ilai)- one
- Cinnamon (Pattai)- one-inch piece
- Star Anise (Natchathira poo)-One
- Ginger-garlic paste (Inji Poondu Viluthu)- 1 tablespoon
- Onion (Vengayam)- 2(big size)
- Tomato (Thakkali)- 2(medium-size)
- Curry Chili powder (Kulambu Milagai Thool)- 2 tablespoons
- Garam Masala (Vasanai Masala)- One tablespoon
- Salt (Uppu in Tamil)- As required
- Turmeric Powder (Manjal Thool)- As required
- Oil (Ennai)- As required
- Coriander and curry leaves(Kothamalli, Karuveppilai)- for garnishing
Coconut Milk Chicken Curry Cooking Method:
- Thoroughly clean the chicken and cut it into medium size pieces.
- Heat some oil in the pan, add bay leaf, cinnamon, Star Anise, and saute for a minute.
- Now add finely chopped onions, ginger-garlic paste, and saute till the onion turns pink.
- Now add chicken pieces and saute for a minute.
- Add turmeric powder, curry chili powder, garam masala, pepper powder, cumin seed powder to it and saute well.
- Finally, add tomato and saute till it becomes soft. In this stage add some water and salt.
- Cover the pan with a lid and allow the gravy to boil well. Once the chicken is half cooked add some coconut milk and let it boil and again cover it with a lid.
- Once the oil begins to float above the curry, turn off the stove and garnish the chicken curry with some finely chopped coriander and curry leaves.
- Serve this coconut milk chicken curry with rice, chapati, dosa, idli
Notes (Tips for coconut milk chicken curry):
- You can try this recipe with some vegies like potato, cauliflower, carrot, beans, and egg also.
- Use homemade curry chili powder for better taste.
