Easy Pepper Motton Masala- Super Suvai Tamil
Pepper Mutton masala is one of my favorite non-vegetarian recipes. I tasted it for the first time in the Thalapakatti restaurant last year. This pepper mutton masala recipe inspired me a lot. I tried to make it in my home. After so many experiments I finally found that secret recipe on my own and I am going to share with you that special pepper mutton masala recipe along with the secret mutton masala powder recipe.
What is pepper mutton masala?
Mutton masala is a type of curry dish which is very famous in India. It has many spices flavor in it and it tastes awesome. It is an excellent side dish for rice, chapati, paratha, and poori.Try out some of these recipes from my blog:
First, we will see the mutton masala powder recipe, as I mentioned above this is a special powder that can elevate the taste of any type of mutton curry recipe.
Ingredients required for Mutton masala powder recipe:
- Poppy seeds (khus khus)- 20 grams
- Fenugreek leaves (or seeds)- one tablespoon
- Mace (nutmeg)- 3 pieces
- Fennel Seeds (Sombu)- 40 grams
- Cumin Seeds (Seeragam)- 40 grams
- Cardamom (Elakai)- 10 grams
- Star Anise (Natchathira poo)- 5 or 6
- Cinnamon (Lavanga pattai)- 10 grams
- Black Pepper (Karu Milagu)- 40 grams
- Cloves (Krambu)- 10 grams
- Bay leaf (Brinji Ilai)- 3
- Coriander seeds (Dhaniya)- 60 grams
- Red Chili (Sigappu Milagai)- 100 grams
Special Mutton Masala Powder recipe method:
- Take a pan and heat it on a slow flame, first add the poppy seeds and dry fry it slightly till the aroma arises. Keep the dry-fried poppy seeds on a plate.
- Now add fenugreek leaves(or seeds) to a pan, dry fry it, and keep it in the same dry-fried poppy seeds plate.
- Repeat point 2 for all the above-mentioned ingredients.
- After dry-fried all the ingredients one by one allow them to cool for 15 minutes.
- Then in a mixer add the dry-fried red chilies and grind it into a fine powder without any flakes(This is a very important step in this recipe)
- Then add the remaining ingredients along with powdered red chilies and grind again.
- Now our Mutton masala powder is ready, store it in an airtight container for long time storage.
Ingredients required for Pepper Mutton Masala recipe:
- Mutton- 500 grams(bones removed)
- Onion(Vengayam)- one big sized
- Crushed Pepper(Milagu)- one tablespoon
- Cumin seeds powder(Seeraga Thool)- one tablespoon
- Green Chilies(Pachai Milagai)- 2 nos(finely chopped)
- Salt and oil(Uppu, Ennai)- As required
- Big Tomatoes(Thakkali)- 3 nos
- Mutton masala powder(Masala Thool)- one tablespoon
- Water(Thanneer)- 3 full cups or as required
- Bay leaves(Brinji ilai)- 1
- Cinnamon(Pattai)- 1
- Turmeric powder(Manjal Thool)- half tablespoon
- coriander leaf(Kothamalli Ilai)- for garnishing purpose
Pepper Mutton Masala Cooking Method:
- In a cooker, add mutton, salt, and three cups of water and cook for an 8 whistle sound.
- Heat some oil in the pan, add bay leaves, cinnamon, and saute it.
- Now add finely chopped onion and saute it till it becomes golden brown.
- Then add crushed pepper, cumin seeds powder, Turmeric powder, green chilies, mutton masala powder, and saute well.
- After a few minutes, add finely chopped tomatoes to it and saute till the tomatoes become soft and tender.
- Now add the required amount of water to it and allow it to boil. In the boiling state add the cooked mutton pieces and saute till the gravy get semi-dry.
- Now turn off the stove and garnish the pepper mutton masala with some finely chopped coriander leaves and serve it with rice or chapati.
Notes:
- Dry frying the ingredients for mutton masala powder will increase its lifetime.
- While Cooking the mutton in a pressure cooker you can also add some chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder for better taste.
