The Ingredients mentioned is for 2 peoples. For more people, you can change the ratio of ingredients proportionately. The arrangement time needed is 15 minutes(To chop the veggies). The cookery time is 15 minutes.

Ingredients required for Avarakkai Poriyal:

  • Avarakkai (finely chopped)- 150 grams
  • Onion (Periya Vengayam)- 1(big size)
  • Tomato (Thakkali)- 1(small size)
  • Salt (Uppu in Tamil)- As required
  • Turmeric powder (Manjal Thool)- half tablespoon
  • Chili powder (Milagai Thool)- one tablespoon
  • Grated coconut (Thengai Thuruval)- one cup
  • Garlic (Poondu)- for garnishing
  • Coriander leaves (Kothamalli Ilai)- for garnishing
  • Curry leaves (Karuveppilai)- One strand
For tempering poriyal:
  • Mustard seeds (Kadugu)- half tablespoon
  • urad dal (Ulutham Paruppu)- half tablespoon
  • Oil(Ennai)- 3 spoons

Avarakkai Poriyal recipe cooking method:

  1. First finely chop the Avarakkai, Onion, and tomato. All should be chopped very nicely.
  2. In the pan, heat some oil and add mustard seeds, Urad dal
  3. Add finely chopped oil to the tempering and saute it thoroughly.
  4. Once the onion turns pink, add the finely chopped tomato, tomato is only for taste so don't add too many tomatoes.
  5. Saute it well and add the finely chopped Avarakkai to the sauteed onion and tomato. Saute it well.
  6. Then add half a spoon of turmeric powder, one spoon of chili powder to it, and add some salt as per your taste. Then spray some water over it and close it with a lid for 5 minutes.
  7. When Avarakkai is cooked nicely add some smashed garlic, grated coconut and stir it well as excess water goes away.
  8. Garnish it with coriander leaves. Avarakkai Poriyal is ready to taste.
