South Indian Style Pavakkai Stuff recipe- Super Suvai Tamil
In this post, I am going to share the Pavakkai stuff(bitter gourd stuff). As we know this gourd is one of the hateful vegetables for everybody. But it has many health benefits, so we have to eat this once in the weak.
What is Bitter Gourd stuff and how it is prepared?
This is a kind of fry recipe. Here we are going to use the bitter gourd as an outer layer of this dish. We know, it has an unbearable bitter taste, but we will reduce its bitterness with a saltwater solution.

Ingredients required for Pavakkai Stuff:
- Medium Size Bitter Gourd (Pavakkai)- 9
- Potato (Urulai Kilangu)- 250 grams
- Tomato (Thakkali)- 1(big size)
- Onion (Vengayam)- 2(Medium)
- Green Chili (Pachai Milagai)- 3 nos
- Turmeric Powder (Manjal Thool)- half tablespoon
- Coriander powder (Malli Thool)- two tablespoons
- Chili Powder (Milagai Thool)- 2 tablespoons
- Lemon (Elumichai Palam)- 1
- Salt (Uppu in Tamil)- As required
- Oil (Ennai)- As required
Pavakkai Stuff Recipe Cooking Method:
Initial Preparations:
- Boil the potatoes, peel off the potato's skin, and mash the potatoes well.
- Remove the horny skin from the bitter gourd and soak it in a salt mixed water for half an hour.
- Then take off the bitter gourd from the water and cut it horizontally into two equal parts.
- Again soak the sliced bitter gourd in the same saltwater solution. This is to reduce the bitter taste from the bitter gourd.
- Finely chop the onions, tomatoes, and green chilies for stuff preparation.
Preparation Method:
- Heat two tablespoons of oil in the pan, add finely chopped onion, green chilies and saute till the raw smell goes off.
- Then add finely chopped tomatoes to it, saute till the tomato becomes soft and tender.
- Now add turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder to the tomatoes, and saute them well.
- Add the mashed potatoes to the pan and saute till the potato gets mixed with the masala.
- Finally, add half lemon juice to the potato masala, now our stuff is ready.
Final Step:
- Take off the bitter groud from saltwater and remove the excess water with the help of kitchen tissues.
- Place a potato masala stuff on one bitter gourd slice and cover it with another slice.
- Then tie the two slices stuffed with potato masala with the help of a thread.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all other slices.
- Heat the required amount of oil in the frying pan.
- Once the oil is heated, slowly put the tied bitter gourds into the oil and fry till the bitter gourd turns golden brown.
- Remove the excess oil with kitchen tissues and serve the Pavakkai Stuff with tomato ketchup your children will love this.
