In this post, I am sharing my favorite spicy Potato Bonda recipe with you. All of us like to eat snacks and good snacks will make your tea time happier. The flavors and taste of masala and potato will remain in your memory.
There are many Bonda varieties out of these Potato Bonda is very easy to cook. In this also, the masala can be prepared in two ways. In one method, we don't cook the masala separately. But in another method, we have to cook the masala. In this, we are going to see the first method.
Ingredients Required for Potato Bonda Recipe:
For Potato Masala Stuff Preparation:
- Potato(Big Size)/ Periya Urulai Kilangu- 2 nos
- peas / Pachai Pattani- half cup
- Big Onion / Periya Vengayam- 2 nos
- Green Chili / Pachai Milagai- 1 nos
- Fennel seeds / Sombu- one tablespoon
- Asafoetida / Perungayam- one tablespoon
- Coriander / Kothamalli Ilai- As required
- Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai- one strand
- Ginger and Garlic paste / Inji Poondu Viludhu- 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder / Manjal Thool- half tablespoon
- Butter / Vennai- one tablespoon
- Salt/ Uppu in Tamil- As required
- Oil / Ennai- As required
For Bonda Batter Preparation:
- Bengal Gram flour / Kadalai Maavu Salithadhu- 1 cup
- Rice flour / Arisi Maavu- 3 tablespoons
- Red chili powder / Sigappu Milagai Thool- 1 tablespoon
- Butter / Vennai- one tablespoon
- Salt / Uppu in Tamil- As required
- Food color / Unavu Vannam podi- As required
Potato Bonda Recipe Cooking Method:
- In a pressure cooker, add potatoes and wait for 3 cooker sounds and then peel off the potatoes and cut it into small pieces.
- In a vessel, cook the peas, it has to be half-cooked
- In a mixing bowl, add the minced potatoes, half-cooked peas, finely chopped onions, Green chili, fennel seeds, asafoetida, Coriander, Curry leaves, Ginger and garlic paste, butter and salt.
- Mix the above mixture thoroughly for a better taste and separate the mixture as a 12 small balls
- Let's prepare the batter, In a mixing bowl, add gram flor, rice flour, red chili powder, butter, salt, and food color. Mix it thoroughly, he butter will give extra crispiness for the coating.
- Gradually add water and mix it like a slightly thick paste.
- In a broad pan, add an adequate amount of oil for deep fry.
- Once the oil gets heated, dip the masala balls into the smooth batter and put it in hot oil.
- The Bonda has to be deep-fried in the oil and wait till it turns golden brown.
- Take the balls out of the oil and pair it with a cup of tea or sauce
- Delicious Potato Bonda is ready to taste, serve it with coconut chutney.
